Kika Mela is the President and Co-Owner of Mela Therapeutics, Inc. and the inventor of the Ki-RO Core Trainer Exercise Harness. She has been a Licensed Massage Therapist since 1995 and has been practicing Greg Roskopf’s Muscle Activation Techniques TM (MAT) since 2007. Kika is one of the few professionals who has achieved the highest level of certification available for MAT Specialists - MAT Rx Full Body Specialist and MAT Athlete. She graduated from Florida Atlantic University in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion and serves on the Advisory Board for the Miami-Dade College School of Massage Therapy. Recently, she co-authored the Manual Therapy chapter in the textbook:  Fundamentals of Recovery, Regeneration, and Adaptation to Exercise Stress: An Integrated Approach. 

After being nominated for the prestigious Sovereign Award for Outstanding Apprentice Jockey of Canada in 1991, Kika shifted her focus from horse racing to her educational pursuits. She has extensive training and experience in various therapies, including Paul St. John’s Neuromuscular Therapy, CORE Myofascial Release (certified), Active Isolated Stretching, Soft Tissue Release, Craniosacral Therapy, Sports Massage, RTS (Resistance Training Specialist), and Greg Roskopf’s Muscle Activation Techniques TM (MAT). In 2006, she completed an internship as a performance coach under Pete Bommarito MS, CSCS, USAW, and has been part of his medical team ever since.

Kika has provided massage therapy and MAT for hundreds of professional athletes, including NFL players, MMA fighters, and numerous professional and collegiate sports teams. Along with her husband Roberto Mela, she developed the Mela Therapeutics’ Sports Massage training program for therapists who want to work within an athlete's medical team. She is also a frequent contributor and consultant at several performance facilities and a speaker at local colleges and universities.
